The African Literature module contextualises the development of literature within the paradigm of responding to colonialism, but will also highlight that Africans had oral forms of literature before the advent of colonialism. The module also locates the pioneering writers within the tradition of cultural nationalism which was a form of resistance to colonial domination and its ramifications.
