The primary aim of this course is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the analysis, decision making and implementation issues of managing the operational aspects of a service organisation requiring a strategy for providing service, which matches the target market with the strengths of the service company. The course also focuses on the operational decision-making that supports the service strategy of organisations. Decisions such as location, layout, capacity, inventory, distribution and quality assurance must be in place and synchronised effectively with the management of technologies and human resources. Borrowing techniques from the manufacturing sector, the course aims at resolving services operational issues. In addition, other issues that are uniquely service oriented will be given special emphasis.
